Scientists from Cancer Research UK have identified — for the first time — that there are five different types of , and they’re able to discriminate between them.

These findings come from a landmark study published in EBioMedicine and could have important implications for the way scientists study and treat prostate cancer. Among other things, the findings can help researchers identify which tumors are aggressive and able to spread quickly throughout the body.

“Our exciting results show that prostate cancer can be classified into five genetically different types,” said study author Dr. Alastair Lamb, of the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute in a . “These findings could help doctors decide on the best course of treatment for each individual patient, based on the characteristics of their tumor.”

Soda and other sweetened beverages have no redeeming nutritional value, and ditching them from your diet can go a long way toward improving your health.

One 20-ounce bottle of cola contains the equivalent of about 16 teaspoons of sugar in the form of (HFCS), which will cause your insulin to spike within 20 minutes of drinking it.

Your liver responds to this insulin burst by turning massive amounts of sugar into fat, most of which is stored — hence the weight gain associated with a .

But a chronically elevated insulin level (which you definitely have if you drink soda on a regular basis) is also a foundational factor of most chronic disease, from diabetes to cancer.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just approved , in what is believed to be a first for the agency. The drug, Spritam, is made by Aprecia Pharmaceuticals and treats seizures. The medication is expected to reach the market in the first quarter of 2016. [1]

NPR reports:

“‘The drug is called Spritam and is designed to treat seizures in people suffering from epilepsy. It’s a new version of a seizure medication that’s been on the market for years.

The new tablets are manufactured using 3-D printing, which creates objects by very precisely spewing out one layer of a substance on top of another. 3-D printing is being used to make all sorts of things these days.

Soybean oil is the most common oil used in the US, but this is a relatively new phenomenon. Prior to 1900, cooking was done with lard and butter, and the processed foods that are now primary sources of soybean oil (and other soy ingredients) were nonexistent.

Partially hydrogenated soybean oil was developed to replace saturated fats like butter and lard in the food supply. Not only did consumers embrace it, but food manufacturers did even more so because of its low cost, long shelf-life, and stability at room temperature.

There was just one problem: partially hydrogenated oils are sources of trans-fats, which are now known to cause chronic health problems such as obesity, asthma, auto-immune disease, cancer, and bone degeneration.

Yet, even if you take the hydrogenation process out of the picture, soybean oil is still detrimental to your health. While trans fats are now being pulled out of processed foods due to their extreme health risks, soybean oil is still fair game… but it shouldn’t be – and here’s why.

Soybean Oil Causes Obesity and Diabetes – Coconut Oil Does Not

Researchers recently designed a series of four diets to investigate the effects of saturated fats (coconut oil) versus unsaturated fat () as well as fructose on obesity and .

Their results show just how very backward most nutritional advice is when suggesting vegetable oils are better than saturated fats…Mice fed a high-fat diet from coconut oil remained healthy, but when soybean oil was added in they had significant increases in weight gain, body fat, diabetes, glucose intolerance, and insulin resistance.

The addition of soybean oil proved to be even worse than fructose, the latter of which did lead to rectal prolapse and fatty liver.

The soybean-oil diet was also found to upregulate genes involved in obesity, diabetes, inflammation, mitochondrial function, and cancer. The researchers concluded:

“Taken together, our results indicate that in mice a diet high in soybean oil is more detrimental to metabolic health than a diet high in fructose or coconut oil.”

It’s known as “odor-evoked autobiographical memory” or the Proust phenomenon, after French writer Marcel Proust. In his famous novel In Search of Lost Time, the narrator dips a madeleine cookie into a cup of tea and is transported back into time as long-forgotten memories of his childhood come flooding back.

Indeed, research shows that odors are especially effective as reminders of past experience, much more so than cues from other senses, such as sights or sounds.

The importance of sleep is widely ignored, especially in the US where working around the clock is still glorified. The cost is rarely considered, even though it actually includes reduced work productivity and an increased risk of serious accidents.

Tired drivers are as dangerous as drunk or drugged ones, and experts believe may have played a role in the Exxon Valdez oil spill, the Staten Island ferry crash, and the Three-Mile Island nuclear meltdown.

But it is FAR more than increasing your risk of accidents. You are decimating your health if you regular ignore and not honor your body’s need for about 8 hours of sleep to recharge and repair.

Following their recent legalization of recreational marijuana use, a handful of U.S. states are turning their attention to the business of regulating marijuana agriculture. And those regulators have made some shocking discoveries: Dangerous pesticides are being used in excess of legal limits, and growers are using pesticides that may not be appropriate for the uses the crop is intended for.

The recent sentencing of Iowa State University scientist Dong-Pyou Han, who admitted to falsifying study data to promote a bogus AIDS vaccine, has become a major scandal in the national media. But it’s really just par for the course in a long line of criminal behavior by the drug and vaccine cartel whose very existence is predicated upon fraud and deceit.

In case you missed it, Han, who worked with a team of scientists to develop an experimental HIV vaccine, was outed for spiking rabbit blood with human antibodies in order to make the vaccine appear effective. The vaccine didn’t work, in other words, so Han deliberately tampered with it to achieve the desired test results.

Such behavior is nothing new for Big Pharma, of course. But Han actually got caught and the mainstream media decided to pick up the story, bringing to light a brand of white-collar crime that’s more prevalent than most people think.

At the end of the day, we can’t delay old age. But with a healthy lifestyle and exercise, we can at least lower our risk of chronic disease and stress, which in turn can slow down the aging process. Now, researchers have  a specific diet known as MIND — a combination of the Mediterranean Diet and the DASH diet — which has shown promise in slowing down cognitive decline among older adults.

The researchers, from Rush University Medical Center, examined some 960 older adults who did not have dementia upon enrolling in the study. Over nearly five years, the researchers tracked the participants, testing their cognitive abilities each year, including episodic memory, working memory, semantic memory, visuospatial ability, and perceptual speed. They also tracked the diets and food frequency — how often certain foods were eaten — of participants, noting specifically how the MIND diet impacted cognitive ability over the years.

They found that people who strictly participated in the MIND diet slowed down their cognitive aging by 7.5 years, hinting that this diet could potentially be a way to prevent Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia.

“Everyone experiences decline with aging; and Alzheimer’s disease is now the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S., which accounts for 60 to 80 percent of dementia cases,” said Martha Clare Morris, lead author of the study, in . “Therefore, prevention of cognitive decline, the defining feature of dementia, is now more important than ever. Delaying dementia’s onset by just five years can reduce the cost and prevalence by nearly half.”

Of course, whether this diet can truly preserve someone’s mind for 7.5 years and stave off Alzheimer’s isn’t completely certain — more research will be needed on that front.

In a conducted at the University of Florida, researchers found that the strength of your grip could provide clues to undetected diabetes or high blood pressure, especially if you’re “skinny fat.” That means you’re within the normal range on the body mass index (BMI) but your fat-to-lean muscle ratio leans more toward the fat part. In other words, about 25 percent body fat in men and 35 percent body fat in women.

The Danish news service TV2 recently aired a bold documentary calling into question the safety of the Gardasil vaccine for cervical cancer. Documenting dozens of cases of serious injury and disability among Danish girls following the three-part vaccination regimen, the video report highlights the Danish Health Authority’s negligence in properly responding to this wave of illness clearly linked to the vaccine, which is also widely promoted in the U.S.

Though the documentary treads somewhat lightly in fully implicating Gardasil as the definitive cause of these girls’ illnesses, it does bring to light how authorities at the highest levels of government routinely try to cover for this deadly vaccine, which SaneVax, Inc. notes has been linked to upwards of 40,000 total adverse events, including death, worldwide.

Obesogens are becoming very well known as science continues to uncover the many man-made endocrine disruptors prevalent in our environment. When we refer to obesogens, we’re referring to the dozens of endocrine disruptors that play a role in obesity. The effects of obesogens on lipid metabolism have been studied intensely over the past few years, with research showing that uncontrolled weight gain may have hidden contributors that go well beyond the simple “calorie in, calorie out” rhetoric. Chemicals from plastics, like BPA, are known obesogens, and these chemicals pollute our […]

Antibiotic resistant urinary tract infections are increasingly common, leaving many looking for natural alternatives. Grapefruit seed extract may be an effective treatment that is safe, affordable and easily accessible. …

Grapefruit is perhaps the most interesting anti-urinary infection agent we have yet stumbled upon in our research. A remarkable case study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary medicine in 2005 titled, “The effectiveness of grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) seeds in treating urinary tract infections,” found that the seeds of the grapefruit were highly effective in killing antibiotic-resistant UTIs:
